State license was created by Forum Staff
You can look up a facilities license status for Senior Homes, Adult Foster Care Homes, in Michigan at the LARA (Licensing and Regulatory Affairs). Understand however a Home for the Aged or Adult Foster Care Home license may or may not be required, depending on the level of care provided at the facility.

You mentioned that some homes do not need a license. Why is that and how do I tell if a home i'm looking at is licensed?

Senior Home Types By State
Regarding this information.  Our webiste ( a.k.a. Senior Home Search) does not endorse any particular facility on the site. Although we deem all of the information on this site as reliable, it is in no way guaranteed. Facilities are updated or change frequently. Some facilities may also go out of business. If you find any informational errors on our site, please contact us to explain. Our site is intended to be a starting point for your research, allowing you to contact senior home owners directly.
Note: Licensing varies from state to state. What one state may call an adult foster care home, another may refer to as an adult family home, board and care home etc, and the level and type of services can be different. This can be very confusing to people searching for senior housing, especially when searching long distance for a loved one. We've compiled a list of state by state licensing terms which we hope will be useful to you.
